CREATIVE BRIEF
Client: Cindy Santana
Project Name: Brand You
Professor: MaeLin Levine
Due Date: End of Semester
BACKGROUND
The client is me and the service is graphic design. I am designing a logo & branding identity system for myself that will help potential employers distinguish me from other designers. My strengths are illustration, flexibility, being tech savvy, creative, and open minded. My weaknesses are procrastination, speed, typography, and public speaking. There are opportunities for me to improve in all of my weaknesses through practice. I value art, nature, and the interaction between imagery and typography.
OVERVIEW
The project is designing a personal mark for myself along with visual vocabulary that will help me brand myself as a designer. The challenge here is to make a mark and visual vocabulary system that accurately represents me as the type of person and designer I am. I am a beginning designer as well so the system must be unique enough to stand out from my competition. The opportunity here is to make my presence in the design community known so I can start networking with potential employers. There are no emerging ideas or trends to consider.
DRIVERS
I’m trying to achieve…
More self knowledge of who I am as a designer so that my portfolio accurately represents who I am and the type of work I do.
A reputation for myself in the design community by getting off to a good initial start.
Long Term Goals
To land a job/internship at a small or medium sized studio here in San Diego or L.A.
Go to a university/art school to get my Bachelor’s in Design while studying illustration.
Working as both a graphic designer and illustrator
To convey to potential clients/employers that I am a friendly, creative, flexible, easygoing and down to earth individual that would be a great asset to their team.
My success will be measured by how much my personal mark and visual vocabulary matches my actual portfolio, how satisfied I am with the final products, and how people react to the bundle as a whole (e.g. if they’re able to see the correlation between them).
AUDIENCE
I am designing for both myself and other graphic designers. As of right now, my reputation in the design community is not yet known so there’s no way of knowing what they think of me as a designer. However, I can use this to my advantage and make a good impression by having my portfolio and visual vocabulary do the talking for me at the portfolio review.
I believe the showcasing of my portfolio and personal logo will help make my presence known in the community while making my service more appealing to potential employers; but only if I execute it successfully and in a way that other graphic designers can truly appreciate it.
COMPETITORS
Other graphic designers are my competitors. I am still not quite sure I have found my “niche” as a graphic designer, but I do know my personality, values, work ethic, and creativity will help differentiate me from the rest somehow. As of right now, other designers might be better than me experience wise, but I am young, open minded, a good listener, and a bit of a risk taker so if employers give me a chance and show me the lay of the land, they’ll eventually see a great designer emerge that will stay for as long as they’ll have me.
TONE
I plan on communicating about my service through social media, a website, and business cards or other types of stationary. I plan on using some illustrations/graphic elements as well.
I want to communicate the feelings of creativity, flexibility, friendliness, and authenticity.
MESSAGE
I am a starting graphic designer interested in working for a small studio with the skills necessary to be a great asset to a team. I can back up this message with my portfolio. Ideally, I would like my audience to see my potential as a graphic designer and be aware of the skills I have learned through my time at san diego city college.
VISUALS
I am going to be developing and shooting new images to help show off my work. I will also have some illustrations in my portfolio and possibly in the visual language of my identity system. For the typography, I plan on having script/handwritten fonts for the headers and a sans serif for body copy. The color palette will be a mix of bright and dark colors. So far, I’m considering using a sunset themed palette for my identity system.
DETAILS
The current list of deliverables i’m aware of are a business card, logo, stationary, and website. The mandatory information is my name and contact info.
There is no budget, but I would prefer to keep things on the less expensive side.
PEOPLE
There are no team members. All of the work will be approved by MaeLin Levine.
