Field Trip - Integrated Signs

Aaron's place was unlike the other places we had been to because it was farther out and pretty hidden; but he later explained to us why he chooses to hide his sign business. A lot of people mistook his business for a regular printed banner/poster type of place so his solution was to not have a sign for his place and rely on word of mouth for advertising instead. I thought it was a smart solution because then he would only get serious customers instead of random walk-ins.

He talked a lot about the sign industry and how it's a branch of design that relies more on executing ideas rather than creating them. His studio was quite large and had a lot of big machinery as well as a million items to make signs. I learned a lot about what goes into making signage for clients and the types of materials they use, which I found fascinating. The funny thing I learned from him is that you don't choose the sign business, the sign business chooses you.
