Field Trip - StudioConover

I thought Dave Conover was a very nice guy. I liked how chill his personality was and how he was easy to talk to. He gave us a lot of great advice on what to do when you're first starting out as a designer and shared many stories on his own personal experiences. The fact that he had been doing design since the 80's truly fascinated me.

Him and his wife do amazing work and have such a nice studio that is actually not that far from Mire's Ball. I learned a lot about architectural design and how they've adapted to the changes in design through out the years. Before today, I actually had no idea how exterior designers worked and just how much work went into it. Hearing all the stories of how Dave's wife wowed past clients was great to hear and very inspirational.

I already know architectural design isn't my thing, but I love getting exposed to different types of designers on these trips because it helps me see just how wide the field of graphic design is. Dave did bring up two types of jobs that did intrigue me though: a research designer and sketch artist. As a designer, I tend to dwell in those two phases of the creative process the most so I hope we get to tour the studios of one of those types of designers in the future so I can see how they work.
